CMG Katahdins is a small family based sheep operation in North Central Iowa. We have been raising registered replacement ewes and ewe sires since 1998. From the start we selected our sheep for maternal traits. Our sheep had to raise twins or triplets without assistance and have ample milk for rapid growth. The sheep had limited access to buildings so they lambed on pasture in late winter. Because of north Iowa's immensely harsh winters, the sheep who survived had to be tough. Those first few years were tough. However, my foundation stock quickly became an extremely hearty maternal group of ewes. Now I'm utilizing the NSIP (National Sheep Improvement Program) to assist with selection criteria to improve the breed even more.
